Approximately 45,000 homes and businesses remain without power across Ireland after Storm Éowyn caused widespread damage to the electricity network. The number of outages is consistent with the situation reported yesterday evening.

ESB Networks has confirmed that it has successfully restored power to 723,000 customers since the storm’s high winds hit the country. However, restoration work continues, and some customers, particularly in areas with the highest number of faults, may experience delays in power restoration.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland has also been severely impacted, with around 2,000 customers still without power. NIE Networks, which has been working to restore electricity, reported that over 1,550 staff and contractors have been deployed, with additional support from other countries arriving. At the peak of the outages, 285,000 customers in Northern Ireland were left without power due to the storm.

NIE Networks has issued a warning about potential fraud, advising the public to be cautious of individuals claiming to be from the company. The utility stressed that all its staff members carry official identification and urged anyone encountering suspicious activity to report it to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

In response to the ongoing disruption, opposition parties in the Republic of Ireland have called for more accessible State support and increased funding for local authorities to implement preventative measures for future storms. Sinn Féin has also proposed the distribution of goodwill payments to households that have been without power, suggesting that these payments should be funded by the energy companies responsible for the outages.

As restoration efforts continue, ESB Networks and NIE Networks are working around the clock to get power back online for the affected customers, with an expectation of further updates as repairs progress.
