Just Eat Takeaway.com is introducing an artificial intelligence voice assistant designed to help users answer the perennial question: what’s for dinner? The AI tool can understand user questions and recommend meals, restaurants, or grocery products tailored to individual preferences.
The assistant allows users to ask both broad and specific questions, even if requests are vague or unstructured. It currently supports more than a dozen languages, making it accessible to a wide range of users. In a promotional demonstration, the AI added all the ingredients needed to make carbonara to a shopping basket and suggested nearby restaurants where the dish could be ordered instead.
The feature aims to address what the company calls “choice overload,” the challenge of making decisions when faced with thousands of options on a single platform. Just Eat Takeaway.com said the AI’s blended interaction model, which allows users to switch between voice and touch controls, could particularly benefit individuals with visual impairments or limited mobility.
Mert Öztekin, chief technology officer at Just Eat, said the company is using AI to “empower everyday convenience across our entire network.” He added, “From intuitive customer personalisation and partner success to smarter logistics, we are embedding automation into every interaction to deliver a seamless, efficient journey that creates real value for everyone.”
The AI voice assistant is currently available only in the United Kingdom, but Just Eat Takeaway.com plans to expand the service internationally later this year. The rollout positions the company among a growing number of food and delivery services experimenting with AI-driven solutions.
Fast-food chains such as Popeyes are reportedly testing AI systems for voice-activated drive-thru ordering in the UK, highlighting a wider trend in the food industry toward automation and artificial intelligence. Analysts say such tools can improve efficiency, reduce decision fatigue, and enhance customer engagement by providing tailored recommendations.
Just Eat Takeaway.com said its AI assistant integrates seamlessly with the app, enabling users to move from meal suggestions to grocery shopping or restaurant ordering with minimal friction. The technology leverages user preferences, location, and historical ordering patterns to deliver recommendations that are both practical and personalised.
By combining voice recognition with touch controls and AI-powered decision-making, Just Eat aims to make meal planning faster and simpler for customers while supporting restaurant partners and streamlining logistics. The company said it sees the technology as a way to improve the overall customer experience and provide value across its platform.
With the growing adoption of AI in the food and delivery sector, Just Eat Takeaway.com is betting that smart, interactive assistants will become a key part of how consumers discover meals and make ordering decisions in the years ahead.
