Elon Musk is renaming his combined artificial intelligence and space company SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI, following US President Donald Trump’s push to replace the term “artificial intelligence” with “super intelligence” in government communications.

Musk confirmed the planned name change on Sunday in a reply on his social media platform X. A user had asked whether the company could be renamed SpaceXSI.

“Yes, we will make that change,” Musk replied.

The announcement came after Musk had posted that there should be “No more AI. SI. It’s better.” In a later post, he described SpaceX as a “super intelligence company”.

The planned rebranding would mark the third name for the company this year. Musk renamed xAI as SpaceXAI around 90 days ago, following SpaceX’s stock market debut in June and its takeover of xAI in February. The deal valued SpaceX at about $1 trillion (€892 billion) and xAI at $250 billion (€223 billion).

SpaceXAI operates Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot that is integrated into X. The platform has about 117 million active monthly users, making Grok one of the most widely exposed AI assistants.

Grok has also gained a role in US government and military operations under a $200 million (€178 million) agreement reached in July 2025.

The latest name change follows Trump’s campaign to alter terminology and geographic names used by US institutions. His administration has promoted the use of “Gulf of America” instead of Gulf of Mexico and has backed other naming changes.

Trump has also urged technology companies to use “super intelligence” rather than “artificial intelligence”. He first highlighted the preference during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, arguing that the word “artificial” could suggest something fake, despite AI systems being capable of producing what he described as remarkable results.

Trump hosted an AI summit on the same day he issued the executive order. Attendees included Google chief executive Sundar Pichai, Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei, Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang and Musk.

The technology executives signed a “Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities”, establishing a voluntary framework for companies to develop and manage security controls. The agreement is not legally binding and does not impose penalties.

Critics have raised concerns about voluntary AI oversight as reports of autonomous AI systems behaving unpredictably have increased. Incidents involving attacks on government websites in the US and Australia have added to calls for stronger safeguards and regulation.

On Sunday, Trump also announced the creation of a “Super Intelligence Force” to coordinate US efforts and maintain the country’s lead in the global AI race.

As of publication, SpaceXAI’s websites and social media accounts had not been changed to reflect the new name. The company has not indicated when the SpaceXSI branding will officially take effect.
