Podcast hosts and former 2FM presenters Johnny Smacks McMahon and Johnny B O’Brien, known collectively as The 2 Johnnies, shared directors’ pay of almost €500,000 at their company, Big Ball Small Ball Productions Ltd, for the financial year ending in April 2024.

The duo saw a major financial boost, with post-tax profits for the company soaring by 68%, reaching €453,682. This marked a significant increase from the previous year’s profits of €269,533. The surge in profits follows the pair’s growing popularity, particularly through their podcast, which has gained a global audience. In particular, their recent “GAA Catfish” episodes enjoyed over two million streams within four days, further propelling their brand.

The company’s strong performance has translated into a substantial rise in earnings for McMahon and O’Brien. Their remuneration, including pension contributions, rose by 25% to €485,447. This included €405,543 in direct pay, with an additional €79,904 directed into their pension funds.

Big Ball Small Ball Productions Ltd, which employs a total of four people, including the two comedians, reported total wages and salaries of €568,175 for the year. In addition to their income from the podcast, the company saw its cash reserves nearly double, growing from €327,066 to €618,026. The value of the company’s tangible assets also rose from €47,250 to €205,247.

The duo’s commercial success extended beyond their podcast, with a successful gig at the 3Arena in Dublin in December 2023, where they earned €702,170 from 12,791 fans. The 2 Johnnies also expanded their revenue streams through merchandise, music sales, and books.

In addition to their Irish success, the pair took their podcast global in 2024, with live shows across the US, Canada, and Australia. The 2 Johnnies also held a highly anticipated “Pints in a Field” event at St Anne’s Park in Raheny in June 2023, and they plan to return to the venue in June 2024 for “Pints In A Field 3,” featuring special guests Vengaboys and Basshunter.

The 2 Johnnies’ rise in both popularity and wealth has established them as key figures in the Irish entertainment scene, with no signs of slowing down as they continue to expand their brand both locally and internationally.
