PayPal has confirmed it resolved a technical issue that disrupted several of its services, including account withdrawals, express checkout, and cryptocurrency services, leading to widespread difficulties for customers.
The problem, which began at 10:53 UTC, affected PayPal products such as Venmo, its peer-to-peer payment app, and cryptocurrency services. Customers reported issues accessing their accounts, with many unable to log in or complete transactions.
Platform monitoring service Downdetector recorded more than 7,000 reports from users experiencing difficulties by 12:12 GMT. The company updated its service status page, stating that the issue had been swiftly resolved, but the brief outage had already caused significant disruption.
On social media, users took to platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to complain about being unable to access their PayPal accounts. Several shared screenshots of error messages that read, “please check your entries and try again” when attempting to log in.
Founded in 1998, PayPal has grown into one of the world’s leading financial institutions, with 432 million active accounts reported as of September 30. Despite the swift resolution, the outage highlights the reliance many customers have on PayPal’s various services for both personal and business transactions.
